ATT Wireless
Dishonest fraudeulent billing after 1 year of service

Electronics and household app.

My complaint is an echo of Chang's. I have been using an AT&T Wireless cell phone for just over 1 year. I had the $39.99 Regional Plan with 200 Anytime Minutes and 2000 Night and Weekend Minutes. I've always paid my bills on time and never had a problem until now.

Two months ago (July), I went to the dealer I purchased the phone from and told them that my 1 year contract was about to expire (in August), and asked if there was anything special I needed to know or do to continue my plan. They told me that
I would be receiving a "letter" in the mail from AT&T before the contract expires, telling me all of my options, etc.

I waited for this "letter", which never came. Since my service seemed to continue as usual during August, I didn't pursue it further.

When I received my 13th month's bill it was $800.24. The reason is that starting the 13th month, the "2000 Night and Weekend Minutes" that were a part of my plan were no longer included, so AT&T charged me for the 2000 minutes that I thought were free.

When I called their customer service, they informed me that I had been notified in each statement for 3 months prior to the end of the 1 year contract that the Night and Weekend Minutes would be eliminated. Like Chang, I had to look over my past billing statements word for word to find a small statement on the 3rd page that said: "The benefits associated with the 2000 Night & Weekend Minutes are valid through 08/04/02. Please call to hear about our exciting new offers!"

I'm so angry about this. I'm consider myself educated and feel angry that I was duped in such a sneaky way by AT&T. I'm angry that the phone dealer misled me about the letter. Please warn other consumers like me to be aware of this deception.
