ATT Wireless
Ripoff - Fradulent Billing - Very Dishonest

Shops, Products, Services

On 02/19/03 I signed up for the $29.99 Nationwide plan (200 anytime minutes and unlimited nights and weekends.) I was told by both BestBuy and the activation representitive at AT&T that I would not be charged an activation fee. On 03/22/03 I received a bill for $42.50 for the billing period of 02/19/03 thru 03/20/03. ($36.00 activation fee $6.50 in fees and taxes.)

On 03/22/03 I called ATT wireless and after spending 20 minutes on hold I finally got to talk to a representative that the free activation was only for a 2 year contract. I had signed up for a one year. Since one of my co-workers is on ATT wireless and has had no problems and I am getting a signal in my house I told her to sign me up for 2 years. She told me that they were mailing me some paperwork to sign and that she was going to give me an account credit of $42.50.

On 04/26/03 I received a bill for $106.98. The issue with this bill is that they gave me credit for only 90 of my plans 200 anytime minutes but charged me for 180 additional minutes at. 45 cents per minute. I immediately called ATT wireless and after putting me on hold for 30 minutes to "figure the bill out" told me that they pro rated the bill since I made a plan change. I explained to her that the only plan change that I made was going from a one year plan to a two year plan. She said it was their policy to pro rate the bill and basically hung up on me. Later on the same night I called again and after again being put on hold to "figure the bill out" the representative informed that she was gong to talk to her supervisor about this issue and that her supervisor would call me back. I have yet to hear from this supervisor.

I have been with several mobile phone companies and I do occasionally go over on the minutes on my plan. I however have never seen a telephone company tell you that you have 200 anytime minutes and then start billing you at 90 for no real apparent reason. This is fraud.
