Circuit City
False Advertising of Portable DVD Playe

Electronics and household app.

I was in the market for a new portable DVD Player. I went onto Circuit City's website on Sunday, Jan. 21 and saw that there was a Polaroid that was regularly priced at $139.99, but after $40 in savings and $20 in a mail in rebate, the total would be $79.99. I then clicked the checkout box and saw that the total would be $119.99 before the rebate. I did this again to see if I mis-read how the savings would be applied, but saw nothing out of the ordinary and tried again, but same thing happened.

I then called CC's customer service and they said that there was an error on the website and that they would fix it and that the price I saw would be available. After a few hours, I decided to check back and saw that it had the price shown at $79.99 still, but when you clicked on the link, it said that the price would be $99.99 after the rebate. I then called their 'customer service' again and they just kept reiterating that there was an error and that the $99.99 price was correct.

However, regardless if it was an error or not, a reputable business should own up to its mistake and give you the price shown. That is what drew me in to purchasing it. Blatant false advertising and an unwillingness to rectify the issue.

The CS agent refused to transfer us to a supervisor, so I have written a letter to their office and have filed a complaint with the BBB of Richmond, VA. We'll see if anything comes of it.

I see that they now have fixed all of the links to refer to the $99.99 final price, but they should have sold it to me for $79.99. So instead of losing out on $20, they are losing out on a sale as I was going to purchase a case for it and they are losing out on a customer. I guess it was worth it for them to not knock off the $20 than to risk losing a customer who would spend lots more in the future. Bye Circus City!!!
