Price Match Policy is a Joke Lie, Scam, etc. Ripoff

Purchase a new hp dv9008 notebook computer (note the 8 at the end of the model number) on 11/20/06 for $1049.00 Upon returning home I noticed that the flyer in the newspaper (dated 11/19/06) for Comp-USA had the same computer dv9000 for the same price with $200 in rebates.

So I go to Best Buy on 11/22/06 for a price match (which was described to me by the sales clerk good for 30 days - but really only 14 days for notebook computers.) The add for Comp USA has the same description as the computer I purchased but Best Buy has an 8 on the end of the model number so it is not the same computer—per the three clerks who assisted me.

I tried to explain that they were in my opinion identical and could they show me how they were not. The said the processor speed was not listed so it must be different. That's why the 8 at the end of there number. End of story no discussion. They are trained very well with this scam like they have dealt with it many many times.

I said what if I returned it and bought the Comp USA (which is next door) model. OOps since I opened the box a 15% restocking fee is charged.

Moral of the story& do your research before you buy and I bet you will not end up at Best Buy & I know I won't ever again.

And the Comp USA notebook comes with a free printer. Ouch!

I have to wonder if HP is in on this model numbering scam?

PS I'm copying this to MA Consumer Protection, Local TV consumer reporters, Boston Newspapers, and any other place I can find.
