Phones have quit 3 months twice before contaract was up? Ripoff

This is 2nd time that our phones have stop working 3-4 months before contract was completed. When I called this 1st time I was first told that I could have another phone for $60.00 and sign another contract for two years, if I wanted to! Or I could pay full price for the phone and then let contract run out in February.

The phone is a Motorola V220, when they transferred my call to warranty department, the person was very nice and kind of laughed, they didn't understand how our phones had lasted that long, 18 Months.

They then explained that they could process the order, but I would most likely be billed $70.00 and would be expected to pay it, because the warranty was only good for 1 year, Cingular and Motorola new the phone had problems and Cingular had already work out a deal with Motorola.

I ask why I did not receive a letter on phone problems, they said it was a problem but mine had made it through warranty so it was not really their problem. I called a 2nd time and did reach a better manager, he was much nicer after I explained the problem to him, and also explained that I had been a customer for at least 5 years, and thought I was being jerked, and then explained that T-mobile was ten dollars a month cheaper for a better cell phone plan he became very quick to resolve the issue.

He would credit my account for the new phone, and also let my contract with Cingular run out in February and hope that I would renew my cell phone contract with Cingular. I know this is not a rip off, but they worked out the problem after talking with a few managers and letting them know I had no problem switching phone companies after my contract was up if their phones could not last the life of contract.

I hope this may help some one else dealing with Cingular or who may have had same problem.
