Misleading warranty statement very deceptive use of the words lifetime warranty

I purchased Maxell headphones with "lifetime warranty" printed on the package. I recently wrote them complaining that the warranty sheet inside the package said 90-days warranty. They replied that it was a "lifetime warranty" but that meant the lifetime of the product, not my life.

In other words, as soon as the model I purchased is replaced by the next model... Which will probably be in less than a year... The product is no longer under warranty.

This appears to be a very deceptive use of the words "lifetime warranty."

Thank you for contacting Maxell Support.

I would guess that those headphones are packaged in a factory that also packs headphones with a 90-day warranty. So, yes, we likely inserted a 90-day card in there by mistake or error.

The HB-350F have a lifetime warranty, which refers to the lifetime of the product in the marketplace. What this means is that there may come a time when we stop making those headphones. Once we do, our warranty department will eventually run out of units to give replacements. Once we reach that time, when the product is discontinued AND no replacements are available, we determine that the product is an "end-of-life" product, meaning it is no longer in warranty.
