I switched my phone to another carrier and paid Verizon over $300.00 to settle my account and end my contract. I had a balance of $50.00 that they felt I didn't pay quick enough and sent it to their "in house" colection department. I paid the amount directly to Verizon on 12/17/04 and at the end of the month they reported the account as a "charge off" to one credit bureau and "write off" to another. How can they do this if it never went to an outside collection agency and was never written off or charged off? The represenative that I contacted stated that they always use this status once your account is no longer handled by their regular customer service department and goes to Their collection department. I don't think it should be legal since it is really a BIG LIE!!
