The University of British Columbia hired me as a technician but failed to complete required paperwork for my employment. After being made to work for almost a month, they refused to pay me, blamed me for the incident and left me stranded in Vancouver.

I was hired by the University of British Columbia as a Research Assistant in early June but they had apparently failed to complete any paperwork regarding my employment.

CanadaImmigration law requires employers to submit Labour Market Opinionforms whenever a position is filled by a non-Canadian. These forms mustbe sent out as soon as the postition is offered and is the soleresponsibility of the employer.

Before this, I had been in Alberta, under study and work permits for almost a decade. For this job, I needed a new work permit, as my old one was set to expire soon. The staff were fully aware of this at the time they hired me, and I provided them with all the necessary information.

I was made to work from July 6 - 31, and all the while staff had advised me that my paperwork was delayed due to routine procedures, and to just keep working.

I realized this paperwork was never done and I was never put on payroll
when I was informed at the end of the month that I wouldn't get paid.
When I asked about it, as I had major expenses from having relocated (I was not compensated for relocating), monthly bills and an increased cost of living (from Alberta to
Vancouver), they started blaming me for the delays.

I tried explaining that it was their responsibility, as I have nothing to do with those forms as an employee, but to no avail. Iwas also
