Major surgery - force to stop classes per doctor's orders and was still charged over 1600 for nothing

At the end of May I had major shoulder surgery and had to stop my class. I had taken out a loan through Sallie Mae to pay for this. Well according to UOP this had to be refunded to Sallie Mae and therefore I owe UOP for the 4 weeks of class ($558.56) and now Sallie Mae is saying that the UOP did not refund everything and they are billing me $992.56 for classes I never took. Accordingly at the time, UOP finance counsellor stated that all monies loaned to me were returned to Sallie Mae and according to the representative from Sallie Mae they were not. I realize I am forced to pay UOP the $558.56 but I don't want to pay Sallie Mae and should not have to. Somebody pocketed this money and it was not ME. Suggestions and help please.

I have called everybody I have dealt with from day one, Admissions, Finance Counsellors, and no one will return my calls. I don't want a bad credit report for something that was not my fault.
