Sent no statements to enable them to charge late fees

I had an unauthorized go on my account. The company closed that account and issued a new card. Since that time, I have received no statements from the company. I then received a "Nasty" phone call stating that my account was deliquent. After 9 calls to customer service I was able to request the statements to be sent, but could not talk to anyone about the problem. My on-line access to the account was also deleted.

After signing up for a new on-line account I found that the record only goes back to December 10th where there is already a large balance owed. There is NO-ONE at customer service who would even discuss what the charges were nor how to correct the lack of statements. The one person who did try to list the charges for me over the phone could not tell me how they added up to the current balance.

This is very obviously a shady method for them to make money by delaying or losing statements in order to charge extra late fees. I have already informed them I wish to close the account and will pay the entire balance as soon as I can obtain a statement showing what the charges are for.

The response I received to closing the account is that it won't be closed until a $0 balance is achieved and that if I haven't paid within 4 days, another Late charge will be imposed, but I won't get the statement for 14 days. For me, this is an admission of the policy to delay in order to charge extra late fees.

I will end up paying all of these fees just to prevent my credit from being ruined by one fraudulant company, but all people should watch out for this company's activities.
