In Jan06, I saw a special deal on Direct TV, I had Dish for years. So I called them and got the info, and had someone come out to install it. They told me not to cancel the Dish, just in case the programming didn't start immediately. The technician was very nice and helpful, but he had forgotten something. He had a direct line to customer service so I asked him if he could verify the cost. He did, then he put me on the phone to explain what I was told before. $49 month for 4 tvs, a DVR and showtime and HBO. I apoligized to the tech and explained to him that i didn't want the service if it was a higher price. He understood. Upon completion of the installition, he called back to customer servie to get the channels working. At this time, the rep told him all the services we would be getting and the price, also a one time charge of $100, all that was left out originally. ONly this time the price was way over $49, they explained to me that each box was $10 (40$), the DVR was $100, then $25 month, the remotes were $5 ($20mo) and HBO or Showtime was $23.99 a month.

Now my $49 monthly went to $357.99 for the first month! Then after that, it would be only $117.99 a month. I was only paying $45 a month with Dish, including the DVR. Immediately I asked them why didn't they tell me this in the beginning and we could have saved the tech time. He understood and couldn't believe it himself. He then disconnected everything. I did not see one minute of Direct TV, I still had my Dish, and he hooked it back up! That was the end of that.

A couple of months later, I got a bill for $75, because the tech didn't take this dish itself. I told them they could come and get it, but they wanted the money first. I was told to send them a letter explaining the situation and that went ok. Then I got another call threatening me to pay that bill. I wrote a certified letter to Direct explaining what happened.

6 months go by, and I get a letter from an attorney to collect the bill, now at the price of $142.73! I told them I never used the service and I don't see why I would have to pay to have the dish picked up when the tech left it here. I was even refunded on my credit card, the $105 for the set up. They are rude, cold and threating. This was through Riddle and Associates. I told them I send a certified letter and now they want that. It's been 7 months now. I figured that when they stopped calling me, everything was ok.
