Calls me 16x per day after written notice not to call Eipoff

I love Caller ID. Allied Interstate has been calling me for a little more than two months now. When they first called, I had missed the call and called them back. The person who answered the phone did not identify the company name when answering, she simply said "This is Susan, please give me your 16 digit account number." I had no clue who these people were or what account number she was referring to. She told me that Allied Interstate was calling on behalf of Capitol One and I explained that I had already begun paying Capitol One the amount in question. End of story.

One week later the calls resumed, but much more frequently. They started calling my work number, where I have Caller ID. One day they called me every 20 minutes. Very often they called 16 times per day.in late October, I finally wrote them a letter telling them they were violating the Fair Debt Collection Act and that calling me 16 times in one day certainly qualified for harrassment. I told them in this letter that (a) I was not responsible to pay this debt to them as I was already paying the original creditor, and (b) if they wished to communicate with me in the future they were not to call me and they should instead send me a letter. The calls stopped.

In the middle of November they sent me a reply by mail asking for my social security number and phone number, telling me they couldn't locate my account. Curious.

Today they have started calling again.

When performing an internet search on this company, all results are complaints about them. Why are these people still in business?

I don't really know what to do next. These people are driving me insane.
