Would not refund monthly charge to my account when I no longer wanted "Preferred Customer Status"

Education & Science

It was wonderful seeing these reports on Melaleuca and knowing I was not alone. I, too, unfortunatley, thought that this was another good business venture.

I am single, and don't need to order $50-$60 worth of ANY products every month. When I could no longer do this, I asked Melaleuca to change my status of "Preferred Customer" to that of a "Regular Customer", therefore, not needing to meet this monthly requirement amount.

Melaleuca's reps said that was fine, but then I'd be paying the "retail" rate instead. I didn't mind that as long as I no longer had to meet the monthly 35 point requirements. I was also informed that the I had to send a letter to Melaleuca's main headquarters in Idaho stating that in writing, that I no longer wanted to be in the "Preferred Customer" status and that I understood that I'd be paying retail prices in the "Regular Customer" status.

I questioned why I was being charged roughly $47 every month to my account, even though I never ordered any products. Melaleuca reps said that was part of the "Advantage Dollar" program to ensure I had a back-up towards products for ordering in the future. I stated that since I had made no purchases for 6 months, that I expected a full refund. This did not happen.

Apparently, the Melaleuca rep didn't inform me that not only was I to send them a letter stating my request for Regular Customer status, that to get a full refund, I had to also call the company within a specified amount of time (5-7 days) in order to not be charged the $47 the next month.

I arugued on the phone with a supervisor to no avail and requested a letter be sent to me stating that it's understood that I am not a Preferred Customer, to which the supervisor replied that they usually don't send such letters. I stated by law that, yes, I can request this.

I did receive the letter from Melaleuca a week after talking with the supervisor, but no refund. I no longer will have anything to do with Melaleuca in the future. Beware that if you don't have enough relatives, friends, co-workers to push their product on for you to sign up, you'll get nowhere fast financially.
