CRC Of Southern California
Ripoff High pressure phone tactics. Making it sound like you're being entered into a $25,000 Sweepstakes through your credit card company

Education & Science

Talking/reading so quickly you don't have time to actually get a money figure on the cost of getting six magazines for only $. 49 for processing, until they are telling you it will cost you $49.95 a month. The cost being calculated over a 20 month period which ends up to be $999.

When you try to tell them you are not interested, they tell you, "It's too late, we have already taken your first payment, but you can discontinue when you receive your confirmation package in the mail". When I got the package, I tried calling the 1-888 number provided but never got to speak with anyone and never got a call back. I tried numerous times to no avail. I sent the letter back with "many" notations on the letter that I was "NOT INTERESTED" "CANCEL" "SEND NO MAGAZINES", etc.

When the second $49.95 payment was taken, I called the credit card company to see if they could do anything. They said they couldn't, that they had been misrepresented by CRC, that they did not know anything about a sweepstakes.

CRC kept taking their payments and I kept getting the magazines. We never heard anything about the sweepstakes. Then several months ago I noticed that I was not being charged the $49.95. Then I started getting daily calls from CRC. They would leave messages for me to call back. When I tried this I again never got to talk with anyone. After weeks of this, I finally left them a very ugly and pointed message saying "I'm tired of this (phone tag), I'm tired of F%ing with you". They were claiming that I had changed my expiration date on my credit card and I needed to update this information with them. This is a bogus claim, nothing has changed and I do not know why they stopped collecting their payments, and there was mention in the messages regarding turning this over to a collection agency.

I received a letter dated 6/27/06 asking me to contact them at their 1-888 number with statements saying they only acted in "good faith" and about why they could not cancel my subscriptions because "subscriptions have already been entered in your name with the proper publishers", now what that has to do with anything I can't figure out. I do not intend to call them but rather am writing a letter back stating how I believe they did not act in "good faith" as their salesperson high pressured a deal, lying about a sweepstakes, led me to believe my credit card company was sponsoring this, lied to me about being able to cancel, etc.
