I applied for a Marriott Rewards Visa based on the 9.99% interest rate. I have consistently paid my account on time, even making 2 payments in July. I made my payment online in October on the 5th. I wasn't aware that it didn't go through until I went online to check on a credit. I immediately called and got a customer service representative with Chase and asked if he could see the payment I made as my other one hadn't posted. He replied that he could and that he would credit me the late fee. However, when I got my statement, I saw where my interest rate went from 9.9% to 27.74%. I immediately called customer service again, speaking with 3 people, one represenatative and 2 supervisors, Josh Gray and Christine Hess. I explained my circumstances and even though the payment was made on the 17th of October, (9 days later) it didn't post until the 20th of October. I requested to have my interest rate lowered. All three refused.

When I stated to the 2nd one that I wanted her supervisor, she said she didn't have one. When I told her I was taping the conversation, she told me she wasn't giving me permission to tape her. She then got her supervisor on the phone who stated she wasn't giving me permission to tape her.

Long story short, I called back and tried again. The gentleman said he couldn't change the rate but would get me someone who could. His supervisor once again said she couldn't because I didn't have the printed reference number to the payment I made that didn't go through. I explained that I was aware that they could lower it, they just chose not to. I told her that I would be paying it off and would let Marriott know how they were doing good faith customers.

All in all, the online payment process can get delayed on their end to their benefit. If you don't cover your rear, they are just waiting to raise your rate 3 times the oringinal rate. It is white collar robbery. I hope everyone reads this and refuses to accept a Marriott Rewards Visa until they become more customer friendly or change banks. I will be using my Corporate American Express from now on.
