Attempted ripoff

I received a telephone call yesterday from a man with a heavy foreign accent, so much so that it was hard for me to fully understand him. He proceeded to tell me that I've qualifed for a government grant for $8,000.00. He then gave me his contact information and said I could contact them anytime between 10am and 6pm Mon-Fri.

He asked me if I had a checking account and I said yes. He asked me in what city was my account and I told him. He then proceeded to tell me that it would cost me x number of dollars to get this grant money and that he needed my checking account number. This is where I put on the brakes.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER!!! Give account banking acct numbers over the phone to a stranger! When I told him I wouldn't do that he abruptly hung up.:) Another fraud bites the dust! Hahaha!
