Ripoff - trying to access my checking account

I was recieving phone calls during the week of April 1-5, but no one would answer. Then on 4/6/05 I recieved a call from a man stating he was with American Grant Information Center, I had been selected to recieve $5,000 or more in grant money and asked if I had been looking at grants lately.

I had been looking over the internet at grant programs. He went through his verbage and asked for my checking account number so that he could deposit this grant money into my account. When I asked him to send me the paperwork on his company and that I would revue that before I would give him my Acct.info. He kept insisting that once they had the acct.info that I could put a stop payment on my checking acct. If it was a ripoff. I guess he felt I would give him my acct info.

I told him I did't want to have to stop anything and that it cost me to put an order like that on my bank. I then told him that if he could not send me all the information on this grant and give me some time to look into the company and over the paperwork that I wanted no part of this program. He then gave me his name, which I didn't catch because of his heavy east indian accent. But I made sure that I got the company name and address. He also gave me the telephone # 1-866-454-4564 and the address was 106-21A 97th st. Ozone, NY 11417.

I then called my local sherrifs office to report it and they suggested I look the company name up on the inernet. This is where it led me. So be especially careful of anyone that is supposedly giving away free grant money and he also said it would only cost me $294 if I did get the grant and if I used it for what I said I was going to use it for.
