Owner Vince Kunst Contract Broken, Vince Kunst left me out in the cold

My boyfriend and I were looking for a new place in Marin County when we stumbled upon a craiglist ad for a place owned/property managed by Vince Kunst, Kunst Properties. The ad stated that dogs were accepted on the property with the exception of about 10 to 15 different breeds (who restricts that many breeds?! Honestly just don't allow pets on your property if you are going to be that particular). We have two mini doxies, dachshunds of which were not on the laundry list of "restricted breeds", so we thought "okay great let's apply". HUGE MISTAKE.

Upon applying, Vince called both my boyfriend and I numerous times to ask questions that had already been answered on the rental application. Each time being abrasive, aggressive, and downright rude on the phone. One would think that when trying to rent out a property to potential paying customers you would at least curb your attitude for a minute. Not this asshole. Vince had the audacity to call out my student loan debt (of which I have never had trouble qualifying for a rental before, doesn't affect my credit score, and have never defaulted on rent because of) in a completely disrespectful manner stating that my name could not appear on the lease, my boyfriend had to sign alone, giving me ZERO rights as a tenant.

Despite our initial reservations, Vince "chose our application out of many" for the property knowing full well we had two dogs, we decided to accept the offer as the property had been perfectly located and nicely priced for our needs. Another MISTAKE. Despite informing Vince that we would take the place but needed to give our current living situation a 30 day notice to vacate, like most respectable property management companies expect, Vince strong-armed us into moving in "within the next week" or we would "lose the property". Again, we decided to go for it given our needs and hoping that once moved in we wouldn't have to deal with his manic and obnoxious attitude much more. We decided to give our place written, 30 day notice contracts and that we would meet with Vince in a mere 5 days to sign paperwork on the new property and put down first months rent and security deposit.

We hadn't heard back from Vince in a couple of days about exactly what time on the designated day he would like to meet so we decided to call him. Upon calling him, Vince stated that he decided to rent the unit out to someone else because he had decided against renting out to people with dogs. The jerk off not only broke a verbal contract, leaving us with no place to go in a little less than 30 days, but he also didn't even have the decency to CALL US and let us know we no longer had the property. Clearly, he doesn't allow animals on his properties. Therefore also falling into the false advertisement trap.

He is the worst excuse for a landlord and property manager. Let alone human being I have ever (in my 10 years of renting, my boyfriends 15 years of renting) met. DO NOT rent from this guy. He is barbaric and disrespectful.
