Lifetime Warranty Refused on 5-Year-Old Wood Blinds and Shutters

I purchased Hunter Douglas blinds through Home Depot 5 years ago, spending $8,00.00 for wood blinds and California shutters. I recently noticed 2 slats were distressed and the paint was peeling. I contacted Custom Brands Group at 800-466-3337. The manager/supervisor would not speak with me. Jamie relayed the message that this was not covered by the warranty and was due to the age of the blind (5 years). This was determined over the telephone without even sending someone to assess the problem.

Excuse after excuse was given. They would not be able to match the color of the slats, and they would have to re-string. What about your Lifetime Warranty??? I was so insulted by their attitude and lack of customer service that I decided to contact the installer. Amazing how he had slats ordered and set up an appointment to come repair the blinds within 15 minutes.

Home Depot sent me a $50.00 gift card and their apology. Hunter Douglas, nothing. No problem. They lost a great customer over something they could have fixed but chose not to. I will share this with every person I know and will spend my money elsewhere from now on. My children will spend elsewhere, and so will friends, relatives and anyone I come in contact with. Hunter Douglas does not know customer service.
