Hunter Douglas Lifetime Warranty a Scam!

The blinds my husband and I purchased from Hunter Douglas for our new home in 1997 began to peal and flake white paint after about five years. All five now have the paint peeling and flaking. We contacted Hunter Douglas who told us to bring them to the local Hunter Douglas Dealer in our town. We did and they sent them to the Hunter Douglas warranty department. They examined the blinds and said they would not be covered because there must be some condition in the house such as excess humidity.

I filed a complaint with the Better Buiness Bureau. Hunter Douglas replied to the complaint as follows "The Hunter Douglas Limited Lifetime Warranty states, "This warranty does not cover any conditions resulting from accidents, alterations, misuse, abuse, exposure to the elements, excessive humidity, fading or discoloration."
With consumer "Rocha's" Hunter Douglas product being "wood" it is a natural material subject to normal environmental exposures present in a window such as heat. Much like consumer home products such as carpet or furniture, window shading's cannot last indefinitely. Consumer "Rocha's" wood blinds are 10 years old (purchased in 1997) which would not be covered under the Hunter Douglas warranty. This is absurd! The blinds are not warranted against normal conditions that occur in a window? They have a Limited Lifetime Warranty but are not expected to last more than 10 years???

I have double pane windows by the way and the home was new when they were installed. I am going to take the paint flakes to a lab and see if they have lead in them! I had an infant crawling around when all that paint was flaking off everywhere!!! Anybody else have problems like this with Hunter Douglas? The BBB case is still open but I have littel hope they will resolve this matter in a fair way.
