Nebraska Home Appliance
Fraud and Deception

Construction & Repair

We purchased a used Whirlpool clothes dryer from Nebraska Home Appliance in Omaha, Nebraska in September. I hooked up the dryer the morning of 9-18. After no more than four minutes, I realized that there was no heat. I confirmed that the settings were correct and I immediately unplugged the dryer. When my wife purchased the dryer, she was told that it came with a 90 day warranty. Knowing this, I called Nebraska Home Appliance and scheduled a service call that afternoon. A technician showed up on time and went to work on the dryer. He soon summoned me to the laundry room to explain what he found. He stated that the dryer vent was probably to blame, not the dryer. He said that he removed some lint from the dryer vent. He then explained that the part that he replaced was replaced by Nebraska Home Appliance when they serviced the dryer, getting it ready for resale. He said the vent caused the part to overheat and since it was new, that had to be the problem. I asked the technician to show me the piece he replaced. He showed me the piece and it was clearly an old part because there was lint and dirt visible. The technician left my house and told me I would not be charged. I was dumbfounded when I received a statement from Nebraska Home Appliance stating that I owe them $42.75. I immediately called to discuss the situation. Todd, from Nebraska Home Appliance, proceeded to explain to me that the 90 day warranty did not cover the part because the problem was the dryer vent. I explained that my previous dryer had no issues with heat. I also explained that the new dryer was working fine, without the vent being cleaned. I asked for proof that this dryer was actually tested and worked in their shop and they could not prove that it did, Todd just explained that they only can go off of their reputation. I informed him that I would not pay the charges as I feel I am being scammed by this company and the dryer never worked in the first place. Todd arrogantly explained that I didn't know what I was talking about and he did. I truly feel that this dryer was never tested and Nebraska Home Appliance knowingly sold a defective machine so they could charge the consumer, me, additional fees. I offered to split the bill in half in hopes that I did not have to spend additional time dealing with this issue even though, I know for a fact that the dryer vent was not plugged. Again, I was informed by Todd that they had already bent over backwards and they are only charging me for the part, not the service call. This leads me to believe that they knew they were at fault and they were trying to disguise their fault and at least recover the price of the part.

In the interest of my credit, I will send Nebraska Home Appliance a check for $42.75 on 11-15 through certified mail. I AM NOT ADMITTING ANY FAULT BY PAYING THIS INVOICE!!! I simply do not want this dishonest company to affect my credit. I will include a letter with the payment to Nebraska Home Appliance explaining that I am paying the invoice ONLY to protect my credit from them. I will make sure the letter is sent certified mail so I am guaranteed that they receive the letter. The settlement I would like Nebraska Home Appliance to refund me the $42.75 I sent them.
