Home warranty rip off

I purchased a house in July.in the closing we were offered a home warranty package. We took it because the sellers was paying for the warranty for the first year and we would only have to pay if we would renew. Well, we won't renew that policy.

I purchased my home through an FHA loan, the house was inspected by a licensed inspector. We called the warranty company for the first time in September, our air conditioner was frozen up. After calling them on three seperate occassions and having no one out to fix the air conditioner we finally had a friend take a look, after about 2 minutes he fixed it and we thought oh well we saved the $55.00 fee we would have had to pay.

Well, the air conditioner started leaking onto the ceiling of our home on Sunday. I called, they finally sent someone on Tuesday afternoon, only after constant harrassment of both the warranty company and the Air Conditioning place. Neither one seemed to want to send someone out. Well, they told me that the leak was caused from some packing that must have fallen out of a box that the sellers were moving (we haven't put anything in the crawlspace yet).

He said he wouldn't fix it because it was improperly installed and the person who installed it could not have been licensed, he said if he fixed it he could be held liable, he also went on to try to sell me a $1,000.00 worth of work. He went on to say that the system had never met specks.

After researching the problem, I found that (1) the licensed inspector that was at our house at the time of sale passed the system as within state specifications, (2) the people that installed the system, have a very good rating with the better business bearau, they are state licensed and have been in business in this area for quite some time. Not only that, they are one of the businesses that First American Home Buyers Protection uses.By the way, they have called me to inform me that they can not honor the warranty on the air conditioning system, but they can send out a second opinion.in the mean time I will be out another week without any Air Conditioning. I am just thankful that I didn't have to pay for the warranty and I am telling any wary home buyers out there. Beware of warranty programs, this one is a sham.
