I started working for Battle and Battles Tile with lots of enthusiasm and determination. They called me their Outside Salesperson. Everyone else had their own email address with the company, but they didn't want to give me one. I should have known something was up because when I asked for business cards, they gave me the smallest amount of cards possible. Like 50. They also had a shady way of having me sign a direct deposit form. It said they can debit my account at any time. Big red flag!
I was told to drive around and look for construction sites, then walk up to them and give them my business card. I did this, only to find out that by the time they start construction, they have usually already chosen their sub-contractors. After a few weeks of using my own gas to drive around, I discovered - on my own - that there are ways to get bids on projects before they are chosen. I found a project with the University of Tennessee, but for some reason, that job was taken from me and given to someone else who worked there. So, by this time, I've given out all the business cards they gave me and had to give out blank business cards with my name hand-written on them.
They wanted me to work in the showroom, but I started getting hassled to go out driving, again. How could I work in the showroom and drive around at the same time? They also considered the money they paid me in the showroom as "commissions."
Come to find out, they have a terrible reputation in town. They approach workers with other companies and promise them big money, but the money never comes.
I believe they used me to hand out information for them and they always had some way of denying me any commissions.
The entire time I worked there, there was yelling, cussing, and disrespect of not only me but everyone who worked there.
The final straw was when they decided not to pay me one payday and didn't give me a reason or warning. I quit. I had invested 3 months of my time into this job and every way I turned, there was some reason I didn't get the project, myself.
