I paid $12,500 for my roof and i dont live in the Taj Mahal

On 4/10/08 I agreed to $12,500 for a new roof. I wrote a credit card access check that i understood to be 0% for a year. I then was told by several people that $12,500 for a roof was ridiculous. I then ask Hansons not to cash that check and I would write them a personal check for 1/2 and bal on completion. I called them then and informed them I didnt want to pay $12,500 for a roof and i could get it cheaper elsewhere. They then informed me that tough i had gone 1 day over the recission date.

So I cld my credit card co. And advsd them not to cash the check. They said it had been turned in 3 times and and refused and that it wouldnt go thru again. I called once again asking to please reduce the price but I was refused. I then said that the check wouldnt be cashed so we will have to talk. I was then spoke to so rudely that I hung up.

He then called me back and said, " I will get the money or I will get your house" and hung up! Finally the salesman called me and said he got it approved to give me his discount which reduced the cost to $9500. Rather then fight I agreed thankfully. I then wrote a personal check for $4500 and they did the work. I then wrote another check for $5000.3wks later i found out they had cashed the $12,500 check, And both personal checks. When I tried to get the $12,000 back they would only refund me $8,930.00, as I owed them the rest for all new wood!!!

On the contract it stipulates, "Rotted wood or Cedarshake roof is beyond our control. There will be a charge per 4x8 sheet of osb wood at $50 at 3 sheets per square. I was told by my salesman that, " that hardly ever happens". Now I feel as I was told on the hang up call, They did get their $ Please can anyone help me. I'm retired and Its very hard to save up $ to give it away. I sincerely dont want someone else to get ripped off as i have been
