Paid deposit and he never showed up to do work and hasn't returned deposit. Portland

We hired Aaron to reside our house in March, he took a deposit and by May hadn't showed up to do the work. He promised multiple times to be there to do the work and never did. I asked him how many houses he had resided and he said 1 but all residing took was carpenter skills. We were willing to give him the job because he seemed to have a good attitude. At the end we fired him for not showing up as promised we asked for the material deposit to be refunded and he has said he would repay us a couple times now but surprise no money. We're now in the process of small claims court, wish us good luck. I suspect this guy did wrong in California and he is spreading his dishonesty to Oregon. Look out what comes around goes around Aaron.
