I've been trying to close the estate of my late elderly uncle who lived in another city and had a contract with Monitronics through another, more local company, Maximum Security. The later was actually the installing company. They do not communicate with each other very well. I sent a letter canceling service and a check to buy out the contract which had just been bought shortly before my uncle's death. I received a letter from the installing company, Maximum Security, stating that the contract was cancelled as of Dec. 1 and "paid in full and no others moneys were due from this account". But, I continue to get bills for service from Monitronics. When I called Monitronics on 1/16/08 they told me that their records show a zero balance but can't send me any documentation on that. Today, I received another bill from Monitronics, statement date, 1/19/08, for service in January and a late fee! They are very hard to get a hold of, even though they proudly announce, while you are waiting to be helped, that they are "open 24/7 to service you". STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! If you have to have a alarm systems research the installer AND the monitoring company, thoroughly.
