Carroll Custom Homes Of FL ripoff - home built below standard

On May 19 I signed a contract to build a house in Ridge Manor, Florida and quit my job in Indianapolis on May 30. The house was to have been finished within 210 days. The house was not completed until June 22.

Upon inspection I found many flaws in the construction of the house (which the foreman and office manager assured me would be repaired) ad I would have to pay the balance due that day or the price would increase by $18,500 because they had increased their prices.

The VP was aware that I was on oxygen and assured me that the house was ready for closig on June 17 with a walk-through on June 16. I was shocked as soon as I drove up to the house on the 16th. There was no sod, both the inside and outside of the house had major problems and the supervisor assured me that the balance of repairs would be completed before the newly set closing date of June 22.

Some corrections were made, but not all. The President of the company and the supervisor assured me that the balance of repairs would be completed within 7 days (except the patio doors... Within 30). On July 6 I went to their office and told the supervisor and VP that the work had not been done.

The supervisor snapped at me and said it was finished. Phone calls on July 12 were not answered until I used *67.

The house was to be completed before Christmas, December and I placed my home in Indianapolis on the marked and quite my $49,000 a year job. Later I was told that I would be in the house on 2/14/04, then the beginning of May, the end of May, then June 17. I lost the sale of my Indiana home and since I cannot afford two homes I was forced to lease the Ridge Manor house.

There are more than 30 flaws in the house including a major defect or should I say " a cost saving" for the builder when he refused to reinforce the concrete slabe with steel as the contract states. There are cracks all through the house and attached garage.

My brother, who built his house next to mine, filed a complaint with Hernando County Development on 3/24/04 re: cracked concrete on behalf of both homes. No response was ever received.

I wrote to the Office of the Attorney General on Sept. 9 but they have done nothing. Everyone says to get a lawyer but that is throwing money down the drain. Florida seems to be in cahoots with each other. When people are down and out, there is no one honest that want to help
