Sony
Broken Blu-ray

Computers & Services

So on 2/27 I purchased a Blu-ray player from a Sony outlet store, got it home and when it was plugged in it was dead. It wouldn't turn on at all. I called the customer service number and went through all those hoops and finally got to the replacement part. Logically since the unit was less than 24 hours old it was covered under warranty. The catch was they wanted a credit card to charge me for all the shipping and handling charges to them and back. I couldn't believe that with a clearly defective product I was going to get dinged again for more charges to fix their defective product. I could of course take it back to the store to exchange it however the issue there is I am a couple hours away from this store. I called the store and was told basically it wasn't their problem and too bad. Hard to believe a company like Sony has service this bad. Most companies when they make mistakes and provide defective product realize it is their responsibility to fix it, not gouge a consumer even more. I can't imagine the charges would end up being more than $30 so it is not huge amount of money. It is more the principal of the idea that I have to pay to fix their mistake.
