Hewlett-Packard (HP)
Non-expansion bay

Computers & Services

I recently purchased my fourth and last HP computer. I picked out the model I wanted, (it had two dvd drives which I said was important to me) but let myself be talked into a more expensive one. I was assured it was very similar but better. (my mistake) I found out later when I set it up it had only one drive. After a trip back to the store (twenty miles each way) I returned with a HP DVD burner drive. When I attempted to install it, I found out that there is no way to use the expansion bay without an adapter! Although the installed devices are hooked up with SATA wiring, there are no extra SATA plugs, only PATA ones. There are only SATA sockets on the mother board. So order to use it as bought, you would need a device that had a PATA power socket and a SATA data socket. I've never seen one.
After another trip to town, I found the store where I bought it (best buy) doesn't sell an adapter. Three stops later I found one at radio shack for three dollars. Eighty some miles of travel and half a day of wasted time because hp was too cheap to put in a fifty cent plug! Never again.
