No problems with Platinum Protection Plan - Microcenter's Platinum Warranty

I purchased a Sony Vaio laptop at Microcenter in August for $2099. I usually don't purchase the extended warranties, but the salesperson convinced me to add the Platinum Protection Plan ($500) because this model's case didn't seem to offer much protection for the screen and the salesperson assured me that the Platinum plan would replace my computer in the event the screen broke.
Just 3 months before the warranty was due to expire, my laptop was accidently dropped. The screen was broken and the case was severly damaged.
I initiated the claims process through Microcenter's 800 number on 5/25/10. A few days later, I received a box to send the computer in to Nexicore for evaluation. During that time, I found this forum and with all the negative ratings, I was sure that this would not work out well.
After a few weeks with no contact, I called Nexicore and was told that my computer was "beyond repair" and that I would be receiving a gift card from Microcenter and that I should go to the store to pick it up.
However, when I arrived at the store, there was no card waiting for me. Fortunately, I had my original receipt and the contract and claim numbers. It took a while, but I eventually walked away with a gift card in the amount of $2004.
While this outcome was favorable, I am still annyoed that Nexicore never mentioned that their shipping box cost me $95 and that no one ever contacted me with updates on my case.
I consider myself fortunate, based on all the negative reviews here. All I can say is that, if you choose to buy the extended warranty on a laptop from Microcenter, you should spring for the Platinum Plan.
