I have owned two Isuzu Troopers and been through 5 engines! I complained about excessive oil usage in my first (1994) Trooper and was told the usage was normal. At 110K miles a ticking started that ended up ebing a bad wrist pin (s). Isuzu wouild do nothing so the dealer ended up moving me into a new 1999 Trooper.
The excessive oil consumption started imediately and I had it monitored until the dealer got Isuzu to replace the motor at about 57K miles. The replacement short block did not use oil. However, it did come apart on the highway in cruise control at 70 mph with about 45K miles on it. The pistons and rods went through the block and out the bottom of the oil pan. Isuzu only warranties their replacement motors for 12K miles instead of the full 60K plus of original equipment motors even though they are made on the same line. They would do nothing. I paid $7500 to get a new long block put in.
The dealer had to put in two because the first on came apart when they started it up. Now the second one with less than 6K miles on it has started a ticking noise!!! It is at the dealer now!
