American Honda Motor Co
Manufacturing defect being referred to as "NORMAL" ripoff Torrance

Cars & Transport

On 2/4/03 I purchased a pre-owned 2001 Honda Passport. It was a $20,000 vehicle. More than I ever intended to spend but felt very secure knowing it was a Honda that came with a superior, pre-owned factory warranty. A transferrable 8 yr/120,000 miles.

When I e-mailed a family member to tell them the exciting news, he replied by telling me he had thought about purchasing one too until he found out it was an Isuzu in a Honda "dress". I was totally shocked to hear that.

After researching his comment, I learned that it was true. I had no idea that Honda would ever hook up with another manufacturer and put their name on a vehicle. Apparently, Isuzu manufactures the parts and Honda assembles the vehicles. It is a look alike to the Isuzu Rodeo.

A few days after becoming the proud owner of this beautiful HONDA, I noticed a clunking or thumping noise every time I came to a stop and again on initial acceleration. It felt like a rear end problem. I took it back to the dealer so the mechanic and I could take a test drive. He said it was the driveshaft.

He also confirmed that it is an Isuzu and that they have had numerous complaints about this problem. He told me Honda claims it is "normal" and that they offer no repair or compensation. He also said he knew of a few incidences where Honda bought back the vehicle if it was a new car sale. I can't be the only one out here with this concern. They know there is a problem but will do nothing about it. Please help me.
