Alderman Ford
RIP-OFF Unloads Explorer with a storied past but refuses to acknowledge what and used car dealer would know when cover ups are present

Cars & Transport

I purchased a 1998 explorer from Alderman Ford Indianapolis. I had a special finance preapproval and presented the certificate upon meeting with a salesman. I picked out a vehicle struck a deal and left the dealership expecting to pick up that vehicle the next day (my financing was prearranged and we had agreed on a price of the fist vehicle I picked out).

However the next day they called and told me I had to pick an other vehicle because they were unable to make the deal we had agreed to the previous day. They steered me to this 98 Explorer with very low milage but with what I thought were obvious attempts to cover up flaws. IE; new carpet glued over the old. The exterior was partialy repainted and the interior was in rough shape with a bad odor considering the odometer read only 24,000 miles.

I posed these questions to the sales mgr but he assured me this was a great vehicle and suggested that I buy an extended service contract if I was so concerned. Well, the service engine light came on 10 min after I left the dealership just as I had started for an appoinment in the next state. I phoned the dealer from the road and he assured me that I may complete my trip without damaging the vehicle but I should bring it in the following day, which I did.

They attempted to fix the light twice and then decieded to put a new transmissin in the vehicle. This was paid for by a 30 day warranty that was part of the auto sales deal. Since then they have refused to responed to my problems. I have, thru my own investigation found that the vehicle came from an out of state auction, (Detroit Michigan) I have also had a body man identify bullet holes that were covered up in the doors and a torn off tow hook that is part of the frame as well as other misc paint related coverups.

Certified mechanic feels strongly that the vehicle has more milage than is shown based on the repairs that I have had perform. There is a reoccuring stain on the console that appears occassionaly and resembles dry blood.

I can only speculate but bullet holes and blood stains are a combination that leads one to believe that this vehicle has a storied past. They did offer to put me in a more expensive vehicle but my lender would not agree to new terms and somehow they had run me with other lenders even though I was preapproved.

These inquires in combination with a Divorce and some other issues kept even my preapproved lender from helping me now. Yea, in less than a week without me initiating other activities related to my credit they had tried so many finance attepts they ruined my status with the lender that had just approved me they week before. I need help. This vehicle is not worth 1/2 of the 19,000 I owe.
