Redwing Minnesota Trickery and confusing contract, ripoff adding price of trade-in to contract

The salesman was very friendly, and we agreed the vehicle purchase price to be 22,500. After appraising our Explorer, he agreed to give us $7,500 trade-in value for it. Since I still owed $5,000 on it, they insisted that this $5,000 will be added to the price of the contract. Then, somehow they ended up with a "net" trade-in allowance of $3,185. This amount was not subtracted from the $22,500, but instead was subtracted from $27,776, which was a price that was never discussed.
The total amount that I ended up financing was $24837.35. This was a vehicle that my wife wanted, and I didn't realize how badly they ripped us off till I started to examine the paperwork, and saw how they took our money.
I'm paying as much for a used vehicle, as a new one - and also paying for the trade-in that I no longer own.
MY SUGGESTION! Never trust the saleman, no matter how friendly they appear. Take a calculator, and write down the deal as you see it, and fully examine all the numbers before signing a contract. I'm paying dearly for not paying attention.
