Cross Country Auto Transport
Open-ended pick-up date, took our money but never picked up our truck!

Cars & Transport

After purchasing a vehicle in Texas and trying to get it shipped to Oregon, we thought we had done our research and had selected the one auto mover who "guaranteed" us that they could quickly move our vehicle. We sorely regret not having found this site before we sent in our money to these rip-off artists!

We were told that they owned their own trucks and that they were NOT A BROKER - therefore they could guaranteed a fast delivery, and the truck would NEVER sit in a terminal. The salesman insisted that if we could give them the $150 deposit right then (April 26th) that they could pick our truck up on May 3rd - GUARANTEED! Maybe even sooner! Boy were we happy! But, since we are posting here, you probably figured out by now that they didn't pick up our truck.

On the 3rd they didn't pick up the truck, so we called them. They told us that the driver showed up with the "wrong trailer" to pick up our truck. I informed them since they owned their own trucks, and were not a broker (ha ha), that they could send the driver back out with the right trailer. That's when they informed me that they didn't have any control over the drivers, they were only the broker - SURPRISE!!! When we asked to speak to the sales representative who insisted on having our deposit (GILLES GENEREUX) we were informed that once they had our deposit we were no longer "allowed" to speak to sales - only the girl in the front office.

To make a long story short, we were informed today (by the same girl in the front office), after notifying them that we wanted to cancel our contract and wanted our deposit back, that we were out of luck. We were also informed that they were never going to be able to move our vehicle since it was a dually pickup (yes, it was listed as such on the original contract) and that if we wanted to file a complaint with our credit card company we had a right to do so.

But, they think they have it all figured out - what they do is each time they set a pick up date, they extend it by 7 days. "We can probably move it next week"..."we can probably do it next week"... in this way they can keep the pick up date open-ended and never have to provide the service - Clever, huh?

My main reason for posting is I would like to find out if anyone out there has been successful in getting their deposit returned for non-performance by this outrageously blatent fradulent so-called company? If so, I could sure use some advice on how it was done.

I am not going to back down from this. I have sent a certified letter to this company and also sent the same to my credit card company (along with the information from this site).

What can we, as consumers, do to put a stop to these rip-off artists? I'm willing to fight - I just need to find the ring - does anyone out there know where I can start?

This site is aabsolutely wonderful - thank you!
