Loves put $125.00 hold on debit card for $15.06 dollars worth of gas! Three days until released

Loves Country Stores held my money for three days with no authorization. My bank told me the laws had been changed to allow this. Most companies only hold the amount of purchase, but some want more and take it. All legal too. On September 23rd at 10:08 A.M. Pumped $15.06 worth of gas using "pay at the pump" by swiping my debit card. Received a printed receipt showing the transaction.

One hour later I attempted to withdraw funds from my account at an ATM. I was surprised when the attempt was denied for lack of funds. I accessed my account online after returning home. I had a charge from Loves for $125.00 made at 10:12 A.M. That morning. No charge for the actual transaction appeared.

I called Loves immediately, they showed no charge on their records other than the legitimate $15.06 charge. They said to contact my bank; it must be their fault. I did. The bank told me that recent credit card laws had changed. That companies were now allowed to "hold" money from an account to ensure payment. Most companies only hold the amount of purchase but they are allowed to hold much more. The bank told me this happens when you pay at the pump only, not if you pay inside after purchase.

Loves' managers apparently do not even know this is happening. How about giving them a clue? If they only needed assurance that I had money in my account why was my account charged $125.00 after the purchase price, $15.06 was known? Why did they hold my account for three days?

I do not have a lot of money. They held my money for three days. I could not even purchase groceries because of these miserable corporate misers. I always went to Loves for gas in the past because I liked their 100% gasoline. I will never go again.
