Tried to Sell me $4,600 Transmission/Only Needed Transmission Fluid

Cars & Transport

On August 12, I departed for a vacation to Tampa and Orlando with family members. As I was driving very close to Port Charlotte, I saw smoke from rear mirror, and stopped immediately. As I have been a certified ASE Technician, two Chevron Full Service Gas Station and 25 cars service center owner, I checked the vehicle and saw transmission fluid. Therefore, in order to avoid any damage to the transmission, I immediately had it towed. The tow truck that arrived offered to tow it to a transmission shop which I told him that I trusted the dealer instead. The vehicle was driving and in drivable condition. I just didn’t want to take any chances.

When I spoke with the service writer, who I believe was Bill Warren, I explained that there was fluid all over engine, under vehicle and I would like it to be cleaned and please check where there may be leakage. I felt that it may be a small problem. If transmission needs transmission fluid, add transmission fluid and has your technician to road test. To my disbelief, I received a telephone call from the Honda dealership Bill, telling me that it needed a Honda factory rebuilt transmission at the cost of about $4,600.00. I asked the dealer not to do anything and I would have the vehicle towed back to Pembroke Pines and he ask me to pay diagnostic charges which invoice enclose, claiming technician tested the vehicle and test codes had internal transmission failure which test in Miami did not show any transmission problem or code.

Now, I have no vehicle, on vacation, had to rent a car and was told that I needed a transmission. I had a tow truck come to pick up the vehicle; he spoke with the dealership prior to arrival and was told that the key was in the vehicle. After his arrival to Tampa and at a cost of $450.00, there was no key and since the service center was not open, the driver went back to Pembroke Pines without my vehicle.

When I received this information, my daughter who is the official owner of the vehicle and I am the official driver, made arrangements to have it towed once again. This cost $560.00. The vehicle was checked by the shop, it was cleaned, fluid was added, and without the expense of $4.600.00, I am driving the vehicle almost a month without any transmission problem.

Now, I am contacting you to get reimbursed for my service fee $111.82 that I paid Charlotte Honda, (which was incorrect diagnostic done by your technician or your dealership try to sell me rebuilt transmission for $4,600), towing paid to Harbor Towing $560.00, the rental car cost me $244.67 which totals $916.49. I also believe that this should be resolved amicably since I am not even asking for anything for making my vacation a miserable one by your incorrect diagnosis of my vehicle and your dealership try to sell me rebuilt transmission for $4,600.00 which vehicle did not needed.
