Pontiac 2000 Bonneville LS
Engine oil usage

Cars & Transport

My car blew the engine. I had 2 options: buy a new or used one. I chose new from GM w/3 year warranty. Dealer says we need for them to change the oil because wrong oil usage could cause warranty to be invalid. They also said the engine could use 1 to 2 quarts of oil every 3,000 miles. I have had GM vehicles that I have driven 378,000 miles which never used a quart of oil between 3000 mile oil changes. 2 questions: Is it true about the new engine using oil? My new engine used 2 quarts between its 1st oil change at 3,000 miles. Do I need to go to the GM dealer for the oil changes or can I continue to use the Walmart tire & lube and Valvolene oil?
