Failure to Return Property, Inefficient Claims Dept., Poor Customer Service

On or about 22 May I strongly believe a Quik Park attendant failed to return the key to my 2007 Toyota Prius. I parked my car in the afternoon and returned at night. The key is a special computer key, known as a Smart Key. It need not be in the ignition to start the Prius or drive, it need only be nearby. The Prius will drive indefinitely w/out the key, but once turned off, the Prius will not restart unless the key is nearby. Upon returning to the car in the evening, the attendant pulled up my car. After tipping the attendant, I drove home and shut off the Prius. I then noticed the key was not in the ignition. I tried to restart the key by pressing the ignition button, but it would not restart, proving the key was not in the car or on my person (if it was nearby, the car would restart). On the way home, I never stopped or exited my car, and my wife was with me the entire time. I immediately had my neighbor drive me 1 hour back to NYC. The attendant then on duty claimed the attendant that helped me was gone and the key must have been returned. Long story short, I had to have my car towed from my house and a new key made ($460). Quik Park repeatedly failed to return phone calls, failed to notify me of the claims process upon my return to the garage (I found out about the process later through persistent phone calls), and the attendant did not follow through on his statement to me that he would check with the other attendants and notifying me. The onus was constantly on me to call back and follow-up, despite knowing I was being stonewalled. The claims department at Quik Park is inefficient and will deny claims without any substantive explanation. The current claims worker does not return phone calls. I believe the claims department operates on a policy of avoidance, hoping the customer will give up. I recommend you avoid Quik Park.
