Coccia Ford Lincoln Mercury
Wants to charge $100 to fix a lightbul

Cars & Transport

I discovered my PRNDL light was burned out and decided to have a Ford Professional replace it along with other maintenance. I figured it would kill two birds with one stone since I also wanted to make sure my vehicle was in good condition.

About 5 hours after I dropped my car off, I decided to drop by to see if my car was done. It wasn't and was told the mechanic was still working on it. I waited for 1/2 hour and was finally told it was done.

When checking out, the lady at the counter told me that the mechanic had to dismantle my entire console and such to get to the light. However, they did not have the replacement part.

I was charged $34 for them to tell me what I already knew and to tell me that they have to order a replacement bulb. Apparently it took the "Ford Professional" 1 hour to get to the light and that was the reasoning for the labor cost to waste my money on not even fixing it.

Here's part 2 of the rip-off. They gave me an estimate of $106 to buy a new bulb and to install it, suggesting that the problem was more than a bulb and that they have to take the console apart.

I immediately refused on having them fix it when they ordered the new 'part.'

That same day, I went home and researched on the internet on how to get to the PRNDL light. I then went outside and it took ME around 5 minutes to get to the light. It took a "Ford Professional" an hour apparently. The center console simply lifts up and you have to do some gear shifting to get it completely out of the way and then the light is under the gear shifter.

I then inspected the bulb and saw it was black and burned out. I went online again, found out it was a #74 bulb, ordered a replacement, then replaced the bulb myself (less than 5 minutes this time). I now have a working light to tell me what gear I am in. How much did it cost me? $5.

Thanks for trying to rip me off Ford.
