Cars & Transport

Used Leons for many years as was quite happy with Price and service. Had the unfortunate opportunity after our manual transmission broke to call my reliable, Leons. I took my transmission in, I work on my own cars, but when it comes to some specialties, I rely on the experts. Agreed to a complete rebuilt for $1300 and was told I would have the trans back the following Tues, this was Fri. Tues, nope not all the parts in. Promised the following Mon by 1pm. Get a call at 12:50pm that Mon, parts received the past Thursday were wrong parts, they said it would take more time to locate the correct parts? 50 years in business, come on guys. They offered to replace the broken pinion and ring gear, synchros and bearings and upped the warranty to 1 year. My wife was getting desperate, the rental car is draining the bank account. OK I said. Get the trans back Tues pm, install Wed, thing howls like a cat in heat. Drop the car to them Thurs, promised back Sat. Get Sat, sounds OK. They said they replaced the pinion and ring gear with another, supposedly all parts were new, I asked - yes! Later found out they didn't put in synchros, the gears were new but the pinion and ring both times were from a junk yard, has a bit of a clunk now. On Sun went to do a little work on it to order some parts from the dealer, man was I surprised, they broke a motor mount, left 1 motor mount loose, cross thread a bolt, over torqued the sway bar, put lock washers at the bolt heads not nuts, broke a flange that protects 1 transmission seal, goes on an on. Took pictures and sent them in an email as well as went by to show them, their foreman thinks I am idiot, no way his guys would do this.in fairness Leons did cut the price in half since by now car rental came in at 800.00. What should have been a week turned into 3 weeks. It has been 2 weeks now, have spoken and written. They keep asking want is it I want, honor the contract, put in new parts and fix the broken parts. Promise to get back to me, still waiting. I explained to them they gave me back a dangerous car that my wife drives. If the motor mount bolt came out, it could have locked up the trans or engine, imagine 75 mph on the freeway, yikes! Glad I am a mechanic and able to fix, but what about the person (s) whom aren't. I am only one person and perhaps an exception to the rule, you'll need to decide. If you go with them, tell them your AAA, automatic 12 mos or 12,000mile warranty and if you have a problem, AAA will step in to help you. Also, check out the ATRA site to know the rules, ethics and rebuild minimums these guys promise to do. Get everything in writing, including when they promise to return your car. New or used parts? Be very diligence, they are nice fellows and make you feel right at home, makes you feel all warm and fuzzy like family. But even family at times aren't best friends when it comes to problems and yes especially money.
