Waiting for a vehicle door part

I have a 2006 Ford Freestar that I purchased new 4 years ago. This vehicle has electric sliding doors.in February of this year a part in the electric opening & closing system broke at the left side sliding door. My dealer in Regina has worked hard to try and find the part. I have no complaints about my dealer. I am however very disappointed with Ford Motor Company for not having the part available. They quit building the Freestar after 2007 and this part doesn't seem to be available. The way it is right now, it might not be safe for a passenger to sit by this side door. I contacted Ford Motor Company this morning and all they could tell me is that there still is no part available at this time and that they were searching for one.in the mean time what do I do for a vehicle. Is my vehicle safe to drive on the highway even if no one is sitting by the door?
