Underquoted my trade-in by $5,000 and tried to sell me a car $2,000 over book value

Cars & Transport

So, where to start...

My wife and I decided to go to carmax to switch to an older vehicle to drop our loan balance and lower our payments. We were trying to sell our 2008 Honda Accord and purchase a 2002 Ford Expedition.

I saw the Ford on the internet. I looked up the value of the vehicle and even high market value it only showed $9,000. It showed this value on Kelly BB, NADA guide and another.

I went to the dealer, looked at the vehicle and we decided that even though carmax wanted $11,000 for it, it would lower are payments greatly and help us out. The salesperson took the keys to our Honda to have one of their appraisal "experts" to check the car out. After about 20 minutes the lady hands us an offer of $5,000 less than the car was worth in horrible condition. The car was not in horrible condition, and had almost no cosmetic scratching, perfect interior and perfect maintenance record. We told them to stick it and left... The funny thing is that I took the car to 2 other dealers and they appraised the car higher than what appraisal websites showed...

So I see how it goes, sell us your car and we will give you much less than it's worth, and then we will sell you one of our cars for much more than it's worth and we screw our customers from both ends...
