Guaranteed to Sell Your Car - Not Even Close!

Cars & Transport

It sounded too good to be true, and it was. NationalMotorSales.com guaranteed they could sell my 2007 Honda Civic within 90 days or my money back (that would be $300). I had already tried eBay, Craigslist, etc - there just wasn't a market for my little car.

So I sent $300, filled out all the required paperwork to be eligible for the refund - including getting stuff notarized which should have been my 3rd or 4th clue - then posted the cute little car. As the 90 days wore on, I dropped the price. No interest, not a call or email. So the market is soft and I'm stuck with this car. Not the end of the world.

After 90 days I sent in all the required documents to get the refund. About 3 weeks later I received a letter saying yes, I am eligible for the refund. Then the delays started. They said they tried for 3-4 weeks for a refund, but that was an estimate. After 2 months they said they were waiting for the next manager's meeting so someone could sign my check. Then I started going on their chat site to ask pointed questions. One customer service guy named Dave said he'd go over to the other department and kick some as* for me to get the check sent.

Apparently Dave isn't very threatening because no check came. I filed a report with the Office of Consumer Protection in the Dept of Justice. Lo and behold, a check came shortly after that (minus a $39 service fee...) Better than nothing.

I mailed the check to my credit union thinking all was good. I was literally writing a thank you card to the nice lady at the OCP when my husband was opening the mail and showed me something from our credit union. The check had been returned as not able to be deposited. Hmm.

The routing number is false. Non-existent. We're now almost 5 months past the time I qualified for the refund, and the $260 check they sent me is bogus. May I make a recommendation? Do not list your car or truck or anything else with NationalMotorSales.com. I feel like a fool for believing them. Stick with legit businesses like eBay, Craigslist, Auto Trader - you may not sell your car during a down market, but at least they are honest and reasonably priced. Good luck.
