Hyper Audio
Talks a great game but does subpar work

Cars & Transport

I was impressed by what I thought was a very experienced crew at Hyper Audio. The owner kept telling me about the high dollar installs they've done and the vast years of experience of his installers. He said on a few occasions that he'd been doing this so long he could hear frequencies that other people couldn't.in my opinion the talent of the installer is the most important thing to consider in car audio so this must be the shop for me. Well... I wasn't buying any equipment from Hyper, but was only having them install my equipment from my previous car. He got me in quickly to do the job. They sent me home with the gains so far off that at 20% volume on the radio I was getting distortion. The crossover on the front speakers was set so high I was missing all the mid frequncies. And... (Here's the best part...) rather than running stereo wires from the radio to my amp, the installer split the right channel in two, sending the right signal to left and right. I can only assume that this "incredibly experienced" installer was either lazy or not incredibly experienced. To top it off, he mounted my amps under my seats and rightside up (which is what I'd asked for) but mounted completely flush with the seat with absolutely no room for ventilation (which I specifically asked him not to do.)
On my own, I removed the amps to readjust the crossover points and the gains, but I couldn't rewire the amps for a stereo signal. I tried listening to it this way at about 80% volume and the amps got painfully hot to the touch.
To his credit, the owner told me to bring it in and he'd fix it so I made an appointment and took it in. I have a baby, so taking the car in and loosing it for the day takes some preparation. I showed up the morning of the appointment and he tells me its not a good day, we'll have to reshcedule. He would have called me but he lost my phone number (even though it is in his work order ledger and likely in the caller ID on his shop phone and iPhone.) This happens again on another day so he says he'll pick up my car at my house, fix it, and bring it back. Great. Well... I call his cell at 8:30 like he told me to and no answer. Call again at 9:00. Again at 9:30. Somewhere arround 10:00 he answers and tells me he's having car problems and can't come by. We try this again next week. Call at 8:30,9:00,9:30,10:00. Call the shop at 10:00,10:30. Somewhere arround 11:00 he answers and says he doesn't have a car or anyone working there with a car (I guess they all walk out of respect for the environment) to pick me up, but someone is comming in that afternoon and he'll do it then. About 3:00 I call and he says it isn't going to happen. That is the fourth time I've lost a day to this guy. I tell him I'll bring the car in myself the next day (requiring me to track down someone to give me a ride on a weekday and stranding me and my son at home.)
They do the work and to their credit... The Wired the Raio in Stereo! (Fireworks and a band starts to play...) They dropped the amps as I'd asked them to in the first place, but rather than rebuild the brackets to give the amps ventillation, they simply tack on a board to space it out. The new board isn't well covered in carpet, so it looks bad. The corners are sharp and only time will tell if having two peices screwed or glued together will be strong enough to hold the amps. To top it off, one of the amp brackets is now wiggly. I'll be surprised if one or both of them doesn't fall eventually, but at this point I don't trust Hyper Audio to do anything to my car.
Bottom line, I paid over $400 for LABOR ALONE (plus some RCA kits) to install two sets of door speakers (guess I could have tackled that on on my own) and two amps. Would up with subpar work and a lot of headache. I would strongly recommend you look elsewhere and not be distracted by the snow job you'll receive at Hyper Audio.
