My car died in a Publix parking lot in the midst of a large shopping center. I called the security company that patrols the lots at night and told them that my car had died and to please not tow it.
I was promised by the owner of the security company that the car would not be towed. I left a note on the car.
The next day when I tried to pick up the car, it was gone. A woman police officer was close by, so I asked her if she could find out where the car was. I knew it had been towed or impounded, but did not know by whom.
She advised me that Apex Towing and Recovery in St. Petersburg FL had towed my car. Not because of the security company, because this is what this company does.
When I went to pick up the car to have it towed to my mechanic... Drumroll... I was advised that they were mechanics also and that my fuel pump had died. They put in the fuel pump and the car was still dead.
Something fishy was up. While I was waiting, two women came in to get their car that had been impounded. They were middle aged and very upset. It seems that the towing company had been trolling their apartment complex and put their car up on the tow truck. They swore they were not illegally parked.
The driver of the tow truck stated that if the paid him at the scene (he would even drive them to the bank if they needed to do that) it would cost $100. If he towed it it would cost $135.
In the midst of all this, I was advised that my computer module was bad and that they already had put one on (without asking me) and it would cost two hundred dollars.By this time I told them to drop dead, to take it out and I would drive it over to my mechanic.
It ended up costing double the two hundred dollars, because in their hateful spite, Apex had destroyed the little rods that hold the ignition module in place.
I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau against these thugs. They are not a thing more than human filth.
