Cars & Transport

While traveling to a family reunion with my disabled father, my mom, and I we had a problem with our gas tank. My dad searched for a place; the first two wouldn't be able to see us for a few days they were so backed up, so we were directed to this place. After looking it over, the owner said they would be able to look at it the next day.

After checking, the mechanics determined that the gas tank had pulled away from the seal and we would need a new one. I know it's not easy to find a 30-gallon tank, so I accept that they had to search and find another one from local junkyards. So, the next day, while they were removing the old tank, they broke one of the bands that hold the tank in place. THEY broke the band, not us. Sorta OK, but not thrilled. At this point, the owner (I knew he was the owner, since all he did was lean against cars smoking a ciggarette and BSing with anyone who would come within earshot) quoted us a price of about $480.00.

So they get the gas-tank off, and all of a sudden, the fuel pump doesn't work. So they have to order a new fuel pump. Total cost for a new fuel pump? 400-some-odd dollars. For a PLASTIC fuel pump. Now, the fuel pump was working when we took it in, it was just the fuel tank that hd pulled away from the seal. I'm not a full-time mechanic, but I know enough what can and cannot be done to a vehicle. Anyway, the owner wants over $1,000.00, and won't accept credit or debit cards because some miracle hit of lightning had struck his shop two days before we arrived and burned out only his credit card machine. This was a small one story BRICK building that was surrounded by tall pine trees, mind you. So we had to all throw in CASH for this greedy, antagonistic, thief just so we could get out of there and try to get to the reunion. 3 days, over $1,000 bucks wasted, and the vehicle STILL doesn't run properly.

Just to say, even the mechanics working on our vehicle were embarrassed by the obvious greed of the owner. And while we were waiting on that third day, some other dissatisfied customer had come to get her vehicle, gotten into some argument with the greedy scum, and called the police to get her vehicle released and towed to a more reputable business establishment. The owner just let her go, I think to keep the cops out of his business until he could get all he could out of us. I know at some places it's custom to rook the out-of-staters, but this is just shameful. So, as a warning... If your vehicle breaks down in Hernando, Mississippi, DO NOT let anyone direct you to Hernando Automotive on the corner of Center Street and ice Plant Road. Stay away. You will be gouged and be given shoddy work.
