Pep Boys
Pep Boys tried to con me into additional repairs that I did not need

Cars & Transport

On May 24, I took my Toyota Tundra into the Pep Boys location on Spring Creek Pkwy in Plano. I was having an issue with the battery. They replaced my battery, however, they told me that I also needed an alternator. They showed me a computer printout showing no charge coming from my alternator. They did not have the alternator in stock, but told me they could have it there the next day. I live in Frisco and even though the repair personnel cautioned me on driving from Plano to Frisco with a bad alternator, they wanted me to drive back the next day to let them replace it. I decided to wait until after the holiday and took it to Christian Brothers in Frisco.

After testing my alternator, Christian Brothers told me the alternator was fine, however the serpentine belt was frayed. They told me that apparently it had been put on too tight. I had also noticed that when I left Pep Boys after the battery replacement that my truck was running extremely ragged and died a couple of times after leaving their shop.

The serpentine belt on my vehicle had not been touched in months. I believe that Pep Boys took the belt off of my vehicle in order to show me a printout that showed no charge from the alternator. Then when they replaced it, they put it back on incorrectly, which forced me to pay for a second repair which I would not have normally needed. I also believe this was why my truck kept dying on me when I left their shop.

I called the store repair manager and got nothing from him. I have also called the Pep Boys complaint number and after playing phone tag with their rep, he has stopped returning my calls. I believe Pep Boys should pay the repair bill from Christian Brothers.

I believe that Pep Boys was fraudulent in this matter and tried to sell me services I did not need. I also believe their incompetence in undoing their deceptive act, cause me to have to pay for additional repairs at another repair facility.
