Lied about smog and Registration

I found a 1987 Nissan Pathfinder on craigs list. So i went to go check it out and it looked like a decent car. Bonell was asking for 1300 for the car and I got him to lower it to 800 because it was missing a catalytic converter. He said it was registered till Nov. Of 09 it even had the 09 sticker on the license plate.

He gave me the last paper showing it had been smoged. It was even signed 09. I went to the DMV to get the title transfered but they told me that the last time it had been registerd was in 04. So now I will have to pay 450 to get it registered. I looked up on the internet to see if it had even been truly smoged and the last time it was smoged was in 03!

I was wondering if I can go after him for lying to me. Not only did he lie to me but he must have stolen the registration sticker that was on the car as well. I'm so fed up I don't have money to pay for all of the registration and the smog. Please help
