Local car seller lies, cheats and sells you lemons and breaks the law

I purchased a vehicle in January from a local small used car lot. I had it checked out loan with 30 days and it has some mechanical issues such as, an exhaust manifold leak. Under the engine plastic cover they found some bolts missing. The tires are over 80% worn etc. I was told they would fix anything found. My first question is what are the legal responsibilities of a used car seller in California on car safety requirements etc.?

Secondly. I went to a Mom and Pop seller because I my credit is poor after a foreclosure. I work not full time what, by session rate. I have plenty of income to, pay the note. Yet the loan company will not supposedly consider any income but my job which they consider part time.

In the last few months the loan application was submitted and denied so I began paying "in house" to the seller. Then they said they resubmitted the loan application again to the same place they say. All the while I kept in contact, made attempts to keep in contact and told someone would be contacting me. The loan company never called or sent me anything in writing.

So I called and called and per the seller again denied based on the same criteria from what the seller says. I have never received any thing in writing from either the seller or the auto loan place. My credit was never checked and do not reputable do that and then send you an approval or denial letter in writing?

I was told by the seller to that now my payment was late (after I was told to wait for the loan company to send me a coupon book) and they are going to repo my car. Mind you I was less than 10 days past he due date an get a solid answer as to what they wanted me to do had been trying to. All my payments including my down payment was paid in a timely manner to that point.

I have been kept in a holding pattern. My payment was due again 9 days ago. This evening a man banged on my front door and began screaming at me as to where is the car?!!!? In my face and in my child's. My daughter is 7 and was crying and scared as was I at that moment. This took place while I was trying to ask him to accept my payment as I had been trying to do.

He refused. I asked him to leave the property and he screamed and threatened to call the police and then sat outside my home until the police came and told him to leave. What are my rights? What can I do. I want to keep my car and work this forward, I feel duped and violated. Was this all a hoax? I do not get any of this. Please help.
